1. Faith in Jesus Christ: Salvation begins with faith in Jesus Christ. In Ephesians 2:8-9, it is written, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” True belief in Jesus as Lord and Savior is foundational.
2. Transformation of Life: A genuine Christian life is often marked by transformation and growth in holiness. In 2 Corinthians 5:17, it states, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” This transformation is evidence of the Holy Spirit’s work within.
3. Love for God and Others: Jesus emphasized love as a hallmark of His followers. In Matthew 22:37-39, Jesus says, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind…Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.”
4. Obedience to God’s Word: A desire to follow God’s commandments and live according to His Word is a sign of a true believer. In John 14:15, Jesus said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
5. Inner Witness of the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit assures believers of their salvation. Romans 8:16 says, “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.”

While these principles guide assurance of salvation, it is important to remember that salvation is ultimately a gift of grace from God. Doubts and struggles are part of the Christian journey, and seeking God through prayer, scripture, and fellowship with other believers can provide comfort and assurance.
