With the rise of Atheist Extremists, let us remember all the Christian martyrs that are being persecuted and killed now and in the past:
Christian Persecution
Over 50,000 Christians have been killed in Nigeria since the outbreak of the Boko Haram insurgency in 2009.
Bolshevik Revolution of 1917
The estimates of the number of Christians killed during the Bolshevik revolution vary, but here are some estimates ¹ ² ³:
· 20 million Soviet and East European citizens died in Communist labor camps, with an additional 15 million killed in mass executions
· At least 106,300 Russian clergymen were executed between 1937 and 1941
· 95,000 Russian Orthodox priests were put to death, executed by firing squad, between 1917 and 1935
· 12 to 20 million Christians were estimated to have been killed under the Soviet regime
12,000 clergy were murdered outright–shot, beaten to death, hanged or drowned—and a secret 1930 police report put the number of Orthodox clergy who had died in prison camps at 42,800
Between 1917 and 1935, over 130,000 Orthodox priests were arrested, and 95,000 of them were shot by execution squads. More than 8,000 were murdered in the initial skirmishes
Between 1937 and 1938, bloody purges resulted in the arrests of 168,300 Russian Orthodox clergymen—at least 100,000 of those arrested were shot.
Nikita Khrushchev who struck back in a campaign lasting from 1959 to 1964, shutting down 15,000 churches, nearly all seminaries, monasteries, and convents, and imprisoning any clergy who dared to voice criticism of atheism.
During the Chinese Communist Revolution, which culminated in the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in 1949, it’s estimated that thousands of Christians were persecuted, arrested, and killed. The exact number is difficult to determine due to the destruction of records and the secrecy surrounding the events.
However, it’s reported that:
· Between 1949 and 1953, an estimated 3,000 to 5,000 Catholic priests and nuns were arrested, imprisoned, or executed.
· Many Protestant missionaries were also forced to leave China or were imprisoned.
· During the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976), an estimated 10,000 to 20,000 Christians were killed, and many churches were destroyed or converted into non-religious buildings.
Here are some estimates of the number of deaths during the Spanish Inquisition ¹:
· Between 3,000 and 5,000 people were executed, out of 150,000 prosecuted, which accounts for approximately 2.7 percent of all cases.
· The Spanish Inquisition never had jurisdiction over the indigenous people, but targeted old Christians, their descendants and other persons against whom it was customary to proceed in Spain.
· During the three centuries of the Spanish Inquisition, the majority of the executed were accused of heresy, and included people of Jewish and Muslim origin who were forced to convert to Catholicism.
