Indeed, in the times recounted within the Holy Scriptures, there were nations and peoples who engaged in the grievous sin of child sacrifice, offering their sons and daughters to idols such as Baal and Molech. This practice was an abomination in the eyes of the Lord, strictly forbidden among His chosen people, Israel.
The Lord spoke through the prophets to condemn these heinous acts. For example, in the book of Leviticus, God explicitly commands, “You shall not give any of your children to offer them to Molech, and so profane the name of your God: I am the Lord” (Leviticus 18:21, ESV). Again, in the book of Jeremiah, God expresses His abhorrence of this practice, saying, “They built the high places of Baal in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, to offer up their sons and daughters to Molech, though I did not command them, nor did it enter into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin” (Jeremiah 32:35, ESV).
The Lord’s heart is grieved by such acts, for every child is precious in His sight, created in His image for a purpose. God calls His people to protect the innocent and uphold justice, reflecting His love and righteousness in a world marred by sin.
