The Bible teaches that all people are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27) and that God desires everyone to come to a knowledge of the truth and be saved (1 Timothy 2:4). It does not categorize individuals’ worth based on their beliefs but emphasizes love, understanding, and compassion for all.

In the context of comparing believers and non-believers, such as atheists and Christians, the Bible instructs Christians to live by example, showing love and respect to others, regardless of their beliefs. Jesus Himself demonstrated love and respect for all people, including those who disagreed with Him or lived lives that were not in accordance with Jewish law at the time. He commanded His followers to love their neighbors as themselves (Matthew 22:39) and even to love their enemies (Matthew 5:44).

The concept of being a “freethinker” might imply that someone relies on reason, logic, and personal experience rather than accepting ideas on the basis of faith or authority alone. While atheists may identify as freethinkers in the sense that they do not adhere to a religious belief system, Christianity encourages thoughtful reflection, questioning, and seeking understanding as well. For instance, 1 Peter 3:15 encourages believers to always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks them to give the reason for the hope that they have, but to do this with gentleness and respect.

The Bible teaches that wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 9:10) and that God’s wisdom is ultimately beyond human understanding (Isaiah 55:8-9). It encourages a pursuit of wisdom and understanding, but within the framework of faith and a relationship with God.

Therefore, the Bible does not support the idea that atheists are better than Christians or vice versa based on the criterion of being freethinkers. Instead, it calls for mutual respect, understanding, and love among all people, emphasizing that everyone is valuable and loved by God.
