The Bible does not directly address the modern concept of abortion with explicit terms. However, it does affirm the value of human life, including that of the unborn. Psalm 139:13-16 speaks to the sanctity of life, with the psalmist David acknowledging God’s hand in his formation within his mother’s womb:

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.”

From such passages, many derive that life is precious to God from its earliest stages, suggesting that anything that prematurely ends that life could be considered against His desires. The issue of abortion is complex, touching on moral, ethical, and personal dimensions. It’s important for individuals to seek wisdom, guidance, and understanding in these matters, always considering the gravity of life’s beginning as sacred.
